1. In compliance with G. O. No. 6, Office Chief of Engineers, April 12, 1911, I submit herewith bills in duplicate, certified oy me, 16 CLAIMS ADJUSTED AND SETTLED BY THE CHIEF OF ENGINEERS. for loss, caused by the U. S. towboat Geo. G. Keith, of a motor launch belonging to Giesing Bros., of Chamois, Mo.

2. About 5 p. m. February 2, 1915, the towboat Geo. G. Keith, with barge in tow, bound for the Gasconade boat yard, struck two motor launches at the foot of St. Aubert Bend, Missouri River. The smaller of the two launches was badly crushed, and was broken from its moorings, drifted away, and sank in deep water before it could be recovered. The bend was quite sharp near the place of mooring, the wind was blowing strongly offshore, and the boat was following the bend closely to keep out of the wind. It became apparent that the tow would strike the point, and while the boat was trying to flank away from it the strong current carried the tow into the bank, striking the launches.

3. The larger of the two launches was only slightly damaged, and no claim is made in regard to it.

4. I consider the bUl for the loss of the small launch a just one and recommend its allowance.

5. An agreement of Giesing Bros, to accept the amount, $100, is herewith in duplicate.

He was married in Slater to Mary Helen Montgomery, January 25, 1940, who survives of the home. He had lived in Slater all of his life. Mr. Hagedorn was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Brotherhood Locomotive Engineers, having been a GM&O engineer for 30 years. Monte also owned and operated a service station in Slater for a number of years. He served as a council member for the City of Slater, was active in both Cub and Boy Scouts and was an honorary FFA member. He was also active in the Only Way Fishing and Golf Club.

Surviving, besides his wife of the home, are two sons, David F. Hagedorn of Kansas City and Daniel D. Hagedorn of Camden; two granddaughters; three sisters, Mrs. Loretta Sellmeyer, Mrs. Domingo Hayob of Slater and Mrs. Mary Brush of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank Hagedorn.

MARY HELEN HAGEDORN

Mary Helen Hagedorn, 86, of Slater, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998 at Big Bend Retreat.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 1, at the First Baptist Church in Slater.

Born February 12, 1912, in Slater, Mary Helen was the daughter of the late Hugh C. and Inis Shumate Montgomery. On Jan. 25, 1940, in Slater, she married Monte Hagedorn, who preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1972. She lived in Slater her entire life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and its Willing Workers class. Mary Helen worked as a stenographer before and after marriage, and was a seamstress for Gillum Cleaners. She was elected Vice President of the first PTA (Parent Teacher Association) chartered in Slater. She was involved in many civic activities, and served as a member of the Slater Centennial Historical Book Committee, which published a book marking the centennial of Slater, Missouri in 1978.

Survivors include two sons, David F. Hagedorn of Mission, Kan. and Danny D.Hagedorn of Camdenton, Mo.; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Georgia Mae Doyle of Marshall and Norma Jean Richardson of Kansas City, Mo.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

He was born Dec. 20, 1881, in Callaway County, the son of James M. and Susan Benskin Atterberry. He was married to Miss Alda Heying on Oct. 7, 1903, and she died on Feb. 13, 1965. They lived all their married life on a farm near Portland.

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Everett (Zelia) Fishburn, of Fulton, Mrs. Vollie (Lucille) Blackburn, of Williamsburg, Mrs.Paul (Orintha) Matteson, of Portland and Mrs. T. R. (Elva Kathryn) Struttman, Rhineland; one son, Elliott Melvin Atterberry of Portland; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Warren Atterberry, of Hermann, and Clark and Walter Atterberry, of Portland; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Cartmill, Onawa, Iowa, and Mrs. Annie Yancey, of Riverside, California.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m., "today" Thursday at the Portland Baptist Church with interment in the Portland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William E. Atterberry, Harvey J. Atterberry, Harrison Blackburn, Charley J. Polacek, Wesley Matteson and Orville Fishburn.
